Friday November 14th, 2008

  • Proclamation Day - 10:30AM –11:30AM - Free to the Public
  • Hollywood and Highland Plaza – Intersection of Hollywood and Highland Blvd, Hollywood, CA
  • A Proclamation by Top Dignitaries, select Air Force officials, distinguished guests and possibly Gov. Schwarzenegger will open the week. A Ceremony spotlighting ‘Today’s Airmen’ will be followed by an incredible multi-ship flyover of Air Force planes including T-38’s, a B-2 Bomber, P-51 Mustangs and a surprise. The ceremonies include the Air Force Marching Band and the incredible precision rifle-bearing Honor Guard. The balconies will be filled with local school children, VIP’s, and happy Southern California citizens. Golden Globe Winning Actor Rick Schroder will open the Grand Ceremonies with Lt. Governor John Garamendi.

  • Air Force Expo - 10am to 8pm - Free to the Public
  • Hollywood and Highland Plaza – Intersection of Hollywood and Highland Blvd, Hollywood, CA
  • DSA Mini-Jet
  • At the world famous Hollywood & Highland plaza the Air Force Expo will display super sized models of aircraft, historical military photos, incredible satellite pictures and flight posters from the Air Force’s history through it’s reach to the future. Visits by Astronauts and Pilots for autographs will be a highlight. The USAF 80 foot long tour van “Do Something Amazing” showing Air Force flight videos, an F-22A mini jet, a flight video game, the Air Force Falcon, and a spinning gyro chair will amaze every age group. Rifle combat demonstrations, martial arts demos, and special lectures on survival tactics will thrill the Adults.
  • The world famous Air Force Honor Guard will perform their precision rifle maneuvers throughout the day in the main plaza. The Explosive Ordinance Removal Robot will be featured and demonstrated in the courtyard. The Air National Guard Dixie Land Band “Trailblazers” and the ANG rock band “Shockwave” will provide tunes throughout the weekend. Special performances by the Rhythm and Brass Ensemble from the Air Force will happen on the main stage.
  • Displays of original art from Airmen all over the southland can be viewed throughout the complex. A unique exhibition of spacecraft will fill the rotunda in front of the famous Kodak Theater. Parked at the entrance to the plaza will be a real F-16 jet engine in a special glass case for up close viewing.

  • Everyday of the Expo a flyover of aircraft will happen across Los Angeles. Each day a different aircraft will take a low-level route that will be announced so that citizens of Los Angeles can look up and experience the awesome power of the Air Force.

  • Griffith ParkThe most dazzling event is the Friends Of The Observatory Reception For The USAF at Griffith Observatory- invitees include Generals and Commanders and their spouses, Los Angeles VIPs, Captains of Industry, Local Political Leaders and a constellation of Hollywood Stars of Screen and TV as well as the Music world. A ceremony re-dedicating the Air Force's Commitment to Space through support of the Griffith Observatory. The most Special moment of this fascinating evening will be awards to honor the Airmen of Fame. The theme for the evening is Space and guests for the evening will enjoy the fabulously renovated Observatory building, with its engaging new exhibits, spectacular Samuel Oschin Planetarium, and telescopes to gaze into the night sky.
